HISTORY OF OUR SCHOOL
The school was opened on 1 January 1908 and is therefore currently 111 years old. It started out with 1 classroom, 1 educator and hosted 16 learners. With time the number of learners increased and on 1 January 1963 the school was declared a primary school – Kraaifontein Primary School.
Mr Borman was appointed as the first principal of Kraaifontein Primary School with a total number of 445 learners. On 8 January 1968 construction started on the new building that would eventually host 800 learners. Kraaifontein Primary School was inaugurated on 19 November 1970.
The number of learners increased and over the next few years extra classes were added (mobile classes). The school’s name was changed from Kraaifontein Primary School to Simonsberg Primary School. It is unsure exactly when and why this name change was proposed.
Currently we are 1483 learners and therefore the Department of Education had to extend the school to accommodate the big influx of learners to this area. Hereafter a list of principals that succeeded Mr Borman:
